APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday March 3, 2007 (MJD 54163) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington Dan Oravetz Suvrath Mahadevan (UF) Scott Fleming (UF) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- 04:10Z - Watcher error: Volts:Imager:vt+ Probably cold-weather related. (Temperature was -8.2C) 08:12Z - Watcher error: Volts:Imager:vs+ Eleven exposures, but only observed 6 ET plates. A few minor errors/problems, see log. Force-filled and topped off dewars manually since no day staff scheduled. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Afternoon checkout went smoothly. 23:00Z - During the afternoon walk-around downstairs, we noticed a puddle of glycol or water/glycol mixture (too slippery to be just water) below the glycol pumps. We also noticed the clear plastic planel attached below the pumps was loose. Night: ------ 01:49Z - Started with Cartridge 6, plate E8016. GSOGTF One 50-minute exposure with the iodine cell in place (data). One 50-minute exposure with the iodine cell out (template). 03:47Z - Mounted Cartridge 3, plate E8024, and slewed to the field. This field was in very close proximity to the moon and was not supposed to be observed. This was due to a mistake in the ET observing plan. We lost about 15 minutes and switched to the correct cartridge, Cartridge 2. 04:02Z - Cartridge 2, plate E8018. GSOGTF One 50-minute exposure with the iodine cell out (template). One 50-minute exposure with the iodine cell in place (data). 04:10Z - Watcher error: Volts:Imager:vt+ Probably cold-weather related. (Temperature was -8.2C) 06:14Z - While slewing to Cartridge 9, plate E8017, we had several rotator aborts. We got this error from the Watcher at the same time: MCP:Axes:Windscreen touched in altitude. 06:36Z - Cartridge 9, plate E8017. Needed an fk5 and spiral pattern to find guide stars. One 50-minute exposure with the iodine cell in place (data). (TERMINATED) 06:55Z - The exposure for Cartridge 9 was terminated because we were too low in altitude and would have dropped below 36 degrees within the remaining exposure time. 07:16Z - Cartridge 1, plate E8026. GSOGTF One 50-minute exposure with the iodine cell in place (data). One 40-minute exposure with the iodine cell in place (data). 08:12Z - Watcher error: Volts:Imager:vs+ 09:01Z - Cartridge 8, plate E8021. GSOGTF One 50-minute exposure with the iodine cell in place (data). 10:02Z - Cartridge 7, plate E8022. GSOGTF One 50-minute exposure with the iodine cell in place (data). 11:13Z - Cartridge 1, plate E8026. GSOGTF One 50-minute exposure with the iodine cell in place (data). One 30-minute exposure with the iodine cell in place (data). ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 43230, plate -9999 ------- 22:33 43230 0.0 bias 22:36 43231 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:52Z 6 8016 29.91 -0.0004 53.17 -0.0037 204.76 -0.0148 0.999970 04:16Z 2 8018 234.10 -0.0002 74.21 -0.0070 64.34 0.0019 0.999930 06:43Z 9 8017 293.60 -0.0010 40.18 -0.0046 129.29 -0.0204 1.000010 07:19Z 1 8026 139.31 -0.0022 56.04 -0.0050 -67.62 -0.0156 0.999910 09:04Z 8 8021 96.02 -0.0024 48.83 -0.0028 250.77 -0.0097 0.999970 10:04Z 7 8022 111.35 -0.0027 56.84 -0.0026 -93.01 -0.0148 0.999990 11:14Z 1 8026 211.46 -0.0027 63.36 -0.0026 47.69 -0.0148 0.999840 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:52Z 6 8016 0.99997 296 1667 250 30 53.2 -8.9 2 310 ---- 2.3 04:16Z 2 8018 0.99993 691 1947 250 234 74.2 -8.2 4 66 ---- 2.0 06:43Z 9 8017 1.00001 -99 1334 200 294 40.1 -8.1 8 20 ---- 1.6 07:19Z 1 8026 0.99991 889 2149 250 139 56.0 -8.1 6 17 ---- 1.5 09:04Z 8 8021 0.99997 296 1605 175 96 48.9 -8.7 11 13 ---- 2.0 10:04Z 7 8022 0.99999 99 1442 200 111 56.8 -8.1 11 12 ---- 1.7 11:15Z 1 8026 0.99984 1580 2577 125 211 63.4 -8.1 6 14 ---- 2.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:49Z 22 -1 1 267 (W) 380 - 22:21Z 26 1 2 218 (SW) 381 - 22:53Z 22 0 4 274 (W) 468 - 23:25Z 23 -1 3 277 (W) 418 - 23:57Z 19 -2 4 280 (W) 405 - 00:01Z 19 -1 3 272 (W) 432 - 00:32Z 20 -1 3 286 (WNW) 416 - 01:04Z 17 -2 0 32 (NNE) 400 - 01:37Z 16 -2 1 272 (W) 387 - 02:10Z 16 -1 0 303 (WNW) 416 - 02:42Z 16 -1 0 187 (S) 389 - 03:14Z 16 0 4 10 (N) 438 - 03:44Z 16 -1 6 12 (NNE) 463 - 04:14Z 17 -2 5 15 (NNE) 352 - 04:45Z 16 -1 4 16 (NNE) 361 - 05:15Z 16 0 2 40 (NE) 379 - 05:45Z 15 0 9 16 (NNE) 375 - 06:15Z 17 -2 10 15 (NNE) 376 - 06:47Z 17 -1 8 14 (NNE) 415 - 07:19Z 17 -1 6 16 (NNE) 448 - 07:51Z 17 -2 7 31 (NNE) 343 - 08:23Z 16 0 11 13 (NNE) 316 - 08:55Z 16 0 12 10 (N) 344 - 09:27Z 16 0 8 7 (N) 330 - 09:59Z 17 -4 11 11 (N) 276 - 10:32Z 18 -7 9 9 (N) 222 - 11:02Z 18 -7 9 17 (NNE) 237 - 11:33Z 17 -7 7 22 (NNE) 250 - 12:05Z 18 -8 2 239 (WSW) 163 - 12:37Z 17 -10 6 28 (NNE) 168 - 13:09Z 16 -9 7 45 (NE) 197 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:00Z - Began ventilation.
