APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday January 18, 2006 (MJD 53754) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Pan Night: Howard Brewington, E. Malanushenko Support: Steph Snedden Craig Loomis (by phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had clouds for the first part of the night and then again at the end. The pointing model was completed; see log for details. We had communication problems with the Paralan (an error) at the guiderMac, which we did not have time to repair; see log. The PT was checked, and it worked. The DIMM was checked, but it had problems. For example, the monitor/display at the scope was distored and difficult to read at times. And although a time sync was done by clicking the red arrow, the DIMM stopped observing after about an hour because the telescope time differed from laptop time. Many other shake items were checked; see log. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- afternoon: ---------- Engineering camera mounted and checked out in preparation for the pointing model. Doghouse imager bias frames look normal. but endDrift took three attempts. Mirrors homed and relaxed. Numbers look good. Craig and Steph chewed over mcp_fiducials on sdsshost to get the latest tables in /p/mcp-fiducials/v1_45. (They have also been installed on sdsshost2 for symmetry's sake). After that, Craig installed a new MCP with French's revised PID values. This version, v5_26_2, has been declared current. Shortly after, we noticed that our lovely new fiducial tables had been overwritten with tables from 2004. Here is what Craig had to say on this matter: "I figured out what bit us, and yes, it's a "feature" [Grrr]. For now, you might want to add one explicit clarification to the MCP build procedure: the mcp source should be cvs [r]tagged after any outstanding mcp_fiducials changes have been checked in and cvs updated into the mcp source. There are tactical shortcuts, but I don't think they are worth explaining. Basically, the mcp_fiduclais product directory is saved _inside_ the mcp product directory. So when I tagged v5_26_2 right before you updated the fiducials, the wrong fiducial files were included in the v5_26_2 version. Worse, I made the change on a branch, so I picked up the fiducial files from the v5_26 branch point." We re-copied the latest fiducial tables back into /p/mcp-fiducials/ v1_45, and since we don't expect to be building and installing MCP again this dark run, the fiducial tables should stay put. Night: ---------- We had clouds at sunset/twilight, so we waited to start the pointing model. In the mean time, we worked on the following shake items. PR 6834: MOP Communication Error was checked. It worked as advertised and the PR was closed. ----------------------------------------- PR 6835: MOP Error Checking Response from TCS was checked, and we got the following error. So, the PR was not closed. mt> mt> rename dfmRecv goodDfmRecv mt> rename testBadDfmRecv dfmRecv mt> 05:53:22.0Z fk5_211 1.056 +1:06 +05:37:38.68 +21:08:33.00 3.00 1 0 0 FK5 1.041 1.043 1.047 length is 26 test returning from 0 to 17 00011101 10001100 slew enabled length is 26 test returning end 01000010 length is 26 test returning from 0 to 17 00011101 10001100 length is 26 test returning end 01000010 Slew not enabled: cancelling request while executing "error $text" (procedure "errorLog" line 4) invoked from within "errorLog "Slew not enabled: cancelling request"" invoked from within "if {![dfmCheckStat 0 3]} { errorLog "Slew not enabled: cancelling request" return }" (procedure "dfmSlew" line 11) invoked from within "dfmSlew" invoked from within "if {[info exists doit]} { dfmSlew puts "doing it!" if {[info exists informGUI]} { if {[info exists adjustFocus]} { takeSequence -informGUI - ..." Is this correct? ------------------------------------- PR 3041: Archiver CGI interface does not remember settings. All worked as advertised. The PR was closed. ------------------------------------- PR 6693: DM temperature display of module data doesn't show data on sdsshost2. This PR was checked, and the temperature readings were visible. However, some of the temps seemed high. In MODULE #0, for example, the temps ranged from -156.99 to -293.16 in numbers 56 to 74. And in MODULE #1, the reading were displayed as -293.16 in 40 to 77. Also in MODULE #1, the temps seemed high in 4 to 7, i.e., -102.12. Are the temperature readings okay? Should we close the PR? ------------------------------------- PR 6604: TPM reported humidity levels are much lower than other sensors on site. This PR was also checked, and the humidity levels were the same on both sensors. The PR was closed. ------------------------------------- PR 6837: Archiver CGI interface does not support start date years later than 2005. All wored as advertised, and the PR was closed. ------------------------------------- The sdssProcedures (v2_09) shake items were checked, and all worked as advertised. ------------------------------------- 07:46Z Enclosure off, and we completed the pointing model; see below. * inmod tdat:telmod SYS$SYSDEVICE:[TCC.PTERR]PTERR_20051220.DAT;1 T 72 1.9900 IE -156.3433 IA -144.5056 PZZ1 -126.4836 AN +9.6423 AW -8.3664 CA +34.5577 HWCA2 -0.0649 HWSA2 -0.5603 HNCA1 +1.0323 HNSA1 -0.3170 ACEC -0.2996 ACES +3.1783 TX -7.9927 END * getdat [tcc.pterr]pterr_20060119.dat Read 72 data points * fix * use ie ia pzz1 an aw ca * fit coeff change value sigma 1 IE +1.318 -155.03 0.874 2 IA +2.338 -142.17 1.428 3 PZZ1 +0.154 -126.33 1.076 4 AN -2.615 +7.03 0.344 5 AW -1.255 -9.62 0.343 6 CA -3.283 +31.27 0.998 7 HWCA2 -0.06 8 HWSA2 -0.56 9 HNCA1 +1.03 10 HNSA1 -0.32 11 ACEC -0.30 12 ACES +3.18 13 TX -7.99 Sky RMS = 2.53 Popn SD = 2.64 * inmod tdat:telmod SYS$SYSDEVICE:[TCC.PTERR]PTERR_20051220.DAT;1 T 72 1.9900 IE -156.3433 IA -144.5056 PZZ1 -126.4836 AN +9.6423 AW -8.3664 CA +34.5577 HWCA2 -0.0649 HWSA2 -0.5603 HNCA1 +1.0323 HNSA1 -0.3170 ACEC -0.2996 ACES +3.1783 TX -7.9927 END * getdat [tcc.pterr]pterr_20060119.dat Read 72 data points * use * fit coeff change value sigma 1 IE +1.953 -154.39 1.003 2 IA +2.267 -142.24 1.088 3 PZZ1 -0.110 -126.59 3.308 4 AN -1.762 +7.88 0.340 5 AW -0.688 -9.05 0.334 6 CA -3.190 +31.37 0.806 7 HWCA2 -0.102 -0.17 0.438 8 HWSA2 +0.066 -0.49 0.453 9 HNCA1 -1.397 -0.36 0.508 10 HNSA1 -0.147 -0.46 0.507 11 ACEC +2.038 +1.74 0.615 12 ACES -3.020 +0.16 0.621 13 TX +0.126 -7.87 1.587 Sky RMS = 1.87 Popn SD = 2.07 ------------------------------------- 010:15Z We mounted cart 09 but had a Paralan error at the guiderMac.
